Working conditions in Ukraine
The working time in Ukraine is maximum 40 hours a week. If there is a six-day working week, the working day can be maximum 7 hours. If the employee wishes to terminate the employment, the notice period is at least 2 weeks. If the employer has grounds to terminate the employment, the notice period is 2 months. Annual holiday entitlement is 24 calendar days. Retirement age is 55 for women, 60 for men. The minimum monthly wage is currently 262 UAH.
Work permits for expatriates
Ukrainian employers must obtain work permits for foreigners employed to work in Ukraine. To employ a foreign national the employer must prove that the work can not be done by a local employee. The work permit can be issued for up to one year and can be subsequently prolonged, there is no limitation to the time of employment in Ukraine. The authorities have 30 days to consider the application and the foreign national is not allowed to work before the work permit is issued. Personnel of representative offices of foreign companies in Ukraine who are employed abroad and foreign nationals registered as private entrepreneurs under Ukrainian legislation do not need work permits. Non-compliance with these requirements can result in penalties and possible deportation of the foreign national from Ukraine at the cost of the employer.
